This workshop will enable you to:
- Be informed, as SGB members, of your roles and responsibilities in light of provincial and national legislation in the simplest way
- Take our diverse South African context into consideration, and explore this culturally sensitive approach
- Handover procedures

- Previous records such as agendas and minutes
- Policy files
- Financial files, including list of suppliers, audited statements, contracts, etc.
- Change in signatories for the particular school’s accounts, especially in the case of higher-quintile schools and Section 21 schools.
- Signing of handover checklists by incoming and outgoing SGB members
- Election of members to specific portfolios
- Co-opting members for their expertise
- Sending out meeting invitations and agendas
- Meeting protocol
- Meeting procedures
- Minutes of meetings
- The roles and responsibilities of different members
- Establishing committees and defining roles within these committees (section 30(1))
- Recruitment of teachers (section 20(1)(j);(7))
